2008-06-09 Karen This is for Julie and everyone else. An EKG will not find all heart problems. My son has a whole in his heart and he has symptoms such as shortness of breath and no desire to exert himself in physical activity. At first they just listened to his heart with a stethoscopes and gave him an asthma test and said everything was normal and he was normal and I would not take that for an answer so they gave him an EKG and did not find anything wrong but he still had symptoms such as shortness of breath and no desire to exert himself in physical activity so I DEMANED another type of test and that is when gave him a test that shows an actual picture of his heart and that is when they finally found that he had patent foramen ovale (known as a whole in the heart). But they still told me that it was medically insignificant and that 1 in approximatley 4 people are born with this condition and they even said that the symptoms he had were part of his personality!. I did more research and found that it IS significant as at any given time he might have less oxygen than normal circulating in his blood (which would explain shortness of breath NOT personality), it can grow in size, he is more prone to stroke especially starting in middle age. So always look for signs and symptoms and listen to your own inner voice.
2008-06-09 Linda I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your son, but applaud your foundation and reaching out to help others. Our 7 year old grandson suffered cardiac arrest 2-1/2 months ago. His fast acting mother started CPR and his father contacted his employer, the local fire department, who sent their Advanced Life Support Team. They arrived under 2 minutes, shocking him 3 times to save his life. He was diagnosed with Long QT Syndrome, which they have found in his father's family. The American Heart Association recently suggested EKG's for all children starting and on ADHD medications. There is a long list of medications that can put your risk factors high (stimulants, allergy drugs, etc) for cardiac arrest. Our lucky boy now has a defibrillator/pacemaker and the family has a portable AED, which may be able to not only save our family members, but anyone around them at sporting events, etc. We witnessed a miracle in his recovery and know how lucky we are. You truly are heroes.
2008-06-09 Julie G. To the Levine Family: I heard of your story on the news and thought..."Oh my God, what an awful tragedy." Having two children, one boy and one girl, I can't even imagine losing one of them. My son, Chuckie, has played baseball since the age of 5 and is now 13. I am behind the Levine family when it comes to having AEDs located at every baseball field that children/adults play on. Jill: You are an unbelievably strong woman, and you turning this tragedy into something like this, is heartfelt. I wish you all the success on accomplishing your goal, and I will keep you and your family in my prayers. You are truly an inspiration to us all. God Bless You! Julie G.

2008-06-08 Tricia Hitchcock As a nurse I am glad that you are promoting AED's. The more people know the better. God Bless you for turning such a great loss and tradegy into something good to help others!
2008-06-07 Shayo Mowen I first seen your story on CNN Heros. My heart ached for you. I have one chld (Drew) who just turned 5. He recently started to play t-ball. I heard of another situation with a young boy playing soccer. The coach had the appropriate equipment you guys are promoting and the boy lived. As a mother I am so scared for my son to play sports. BUT I do not want him to be to sheltered and controlled by my fears. I pray to God everything you want comes true and ALL SPORTS require the defibrilators. I live in Bentonville Arkansas home of Walmart Corporate, I wish you could get thier foundation to help you. Again my prayers are with you and your family. Everytime I see Drew run it almost makes me cry. Take care and good luck, Shayo
2008-06-07 Pete And Melissa Gangi It was so wonderful seeing the hard work of your foundation appear on CNN. We hope along with you that your life-saving message keeps spreading. We know that as you move your foundation forward with remarkable strength and passion, you continue to miss Robbie in a way that no one can understand. We think of Robbie and all of you constantly. What an amazing way to cherish his memory.
2008-06-07 Annie In SC Like others have listed in your guestbook, I too am so very sorry for your loss. You are such an inspiration and now a lifesaver to others. I too am a mother of a very active son with a passion for baseball, and as a result of learning more about your foundation and defibrillators, I have contacted my local Recreation department director to voice my concern and interest in providing this for our local youth programs. I am so glad I watched CNN that morning and was able to learn more about this foundation. Maybe I can help youth in my area, as a result of learning this information. You are doing a terrific job.....keep up your drive for awareness. God Bless You, Your Family, & this foundation!
2008-06-07 Mary Ellen Wolf What a wonderful way to honor the memory of your beautiful son! Your strength and courage are remarkable. Thank you for sharing your story, and thank you especially for all you are doing so that others may be spared.
2008-06-07 Heather Foster I just want you and your family to know that our family is inspired by you. We started our Foundation after we lost John Wesley. We draw strength from you. I am so proud of the work you have done to spread the word of SCA and AED's. We know that we must do more, but some days it is just too overwhelming. John Wesley will be "forever 9" also...God Bless you in all you do in honor of Robbie!
